LOBBYING ACG partners with other organisations wherever possible, including individual members where appropriate, to ensure that we achieve maximum impact, both in the UK and at European level.
In the UK
ACG is a member of the Alliance Against IP Theft, an 'association of associations' founded in 1998. Rights owners from all industry sectors affected by IP crime are represented, from music and video to computer games and software.
ACG's Director-General is a Vice-Chair of the Alliance and represents trade mark interests in meetings with Ministers, senior law enforcement and other stakeholders such as consumers and the media.
At European Level
ACG is a member of the Anti-Counterfeiting Committee of the European Brands Association (AIM) in Brussels. Our DG attends meetings there twice a year and works constantly to support the drive to improve and harmonise EU law and practice in relation to the enforcement of IP rights.
AWARENESS
ACG's awareness campaigns are conducted via the media, via ACG's own extensive contacts within government and law enforcement, and via our website which is proving to be a very useful communication tool.
There are several different target audiences:
Consumers Government Enforcement Agencies Judiciary
ACG is already a recognised authority in the field and our DG is regularly asked to contribute to articles and programmes by press and media. Government is now showing greater awareness of the need to educate consumers about the impact of purchasing fakes, and this will, we hope, provide new opportunities for ACG to achieve maximum profile for the issues and influence decision-makers.
NETWORKING ACG provides an important forum for its members to meet each other, and to liaise effectively with government and law enforcement, to promote understanding and collaboration, and to exchange information.
Our conferences are held twice a year in spring and autumn, and our roadshows are organised four times a year around the country.
