GOVERNMENT CONSULTATIONS ETC

INDEPENDENT REVIEW OF IP & GROWTH (BIS)
In November 2010 the Prime Minister announced that he wanted to review the UK's IP laws 'to see if we can make them fit for the digital age'. He had been told by Google that they could never have started up in the UK because 'our copyright system is not as friendly to this sort of innovation as it is in the USA'.

This became a review 'to identify barriers to growth within the IP framework'. The Review Panel was chosen and chaired by Professor Ian Hargreaves and responses were submitted by over 290 different interests, deadline 4 March.

At the time of writing, the Review Panel is due to report by the end of April to the Secretary of State for BIS, Dr Vince Cable, and George Osborne, the Chancellor. The report will be made public in late May or early June, we understand.
