ACG Webinar with ANTI COPYING IN DESIGN (ACID)

Why Big Brands Should Embrace Unregistered Design Protection – Examining the Benefits, Q & A

Speakers: Nick Kounoupias, Chief Counsel, ACID
Dids Macdonald OBE., Co-Founder and Chairman

In today's fast-paced, innovation-driven marketplace, big brands must safeguard their designs efficiently and flexibly. While registered design rights offer strong protection, unregistered design protection is an often overlooked yet highly valuable tool that provides immediate and automatic coverage. ACID will provide a session look into the benefits to raise awareness about the value of unregistered designs.

Nick Kounoupias, a UK solicitor with over 37 years' experience, is a leading figure in international intellectual property (IP). Recognised as the UK IP Champion in 2021, he has worked extensively across all IP sectors in both private practice and corporate roles. Nick founded Kounoupias IP to provide strategic IP support beyond traditional legal services. Renowned globally for his expertise, he advises a diverse client base, including creative industries, academic institutions, and government bodies. A seasoned mediator and specialist in anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting, he has held prominent positions, including founder and Vice Chairman of the Alliance for IP, a Director of the ACG., and Chief Legal Counsel to Anti-Copying in Design (ACID), where he currently serves as Director and Chief Counsel.

Dids Macdonald OBE, FRSA, is the co-Founder and Chair of ACID and Vice-Chair of the Alliance for Intellectual Property. With over 35 years in the design industry, she co-founded ACID after repeated infringement of her own designs. A passionate advocate for IP law reform and education, she has played a key role in shaping policy, notably contributing to the 2014 IP Act. Dids champions IP protection, promoting respect for originality and innovation. Her accolades include an OBE for services to the design industry, Fellowship of the Society of Design Craftsmen, and induction into the Design Week Hall of Fame. She continues to serve on multiple industry boards, driving awareness and enforcement of IP rights in the UK and beyond.
