On Friday 29th May at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court, Jonathon Nicholls of Poplar Place, Trefechan, Merthyr Tydfil was ordered to pay back over £20,000 as a result of Proceeds of Crime action taken by the Trading Standards Service at Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council.

28.05.15 - A couple from Manchester have been jailed for a £3.8 million excise fraud, involving over 25 tonnes of counterfeit tobacco, after an investigation by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Feng Gao, 39, and his partner Mingshu Yang, 43, of St Heliers Drive, Salford, were linked to over 28 deliveries of illegal hand-rolling tobacco (HRT) across the North West and eight tobacco seizures in Manchester, Liverpool and the Netherlands.

28.05.15 - A STOURBRIDGE man has begun a two-year prison sentence for running a T-shirt counterfeiting racket from his garage that cost trademark holders more than £500,000. The production of the fake clothing was professional, well organised and extremely profitable as Ian Guy sold goods worldwide, Wolverhampton Crown Court heard.

28.05.15 - Crooks are targeting smokers in the UK which saw a 50 per cent rise in the in consumption of cheap counterfeit and contraband tobacco last year. A report by consultants KPMG says half of all illegal cigarettes sold in Britain comes from Poland, Belarus and Pakistan.
