ACG celebrate British IP Day

29 June 2021

Today, Tuesday 29 June 2021 is British Intellectual Property (IP) Day, when we celebrate the immense contribution IP makes to the UK economy and society. Often overlooked IP is central to most industries and encourages innovation and creativity.

This year, the Alliance for IP will be hosting a series of online roundtables for ACG members to attend that will be led by key stakeholders and focused on IP and innovation.

  • Amanda Solloway MP, Minister for Science, Research and Innovation
  • Adam Williams, Director, International Directorate, IPO
  • Chi Onwurah MP, Shadow Minister for Science, Research and Digital

Intellectual property (IP) involves ideas and inventions, artistic and literary works, designs and symbols, names and images. It is important that before any innovative and creative output is marketed it is protected in law, through a trademark, patent and/or copyright.

Despite this level of protection brands still face constant challenges from counterfeiters. All market sectors are affected. Counterfeit products cost the UK economy millions in jobs and lost revenue. It impacts our economic recovery and deprives the country of money for crucial public services.
