ACG exhibits at a Premier League event

27 September 2016

Football Against Fakes eventCounterfeit football shirts, boots, scarfs and other merchandise continue to be a major headache for the Premier League football clubs. That’s why The Premier League hosted a Football Against Fakes event at The Emirates Stadium, London on Thursday 22 September.

More than 25 clubs and partners exhibited genuine and counterfeit products at the event and chatted to delegates from City of London Police, Trading Standards, Border Force, HRMC and Intellectual Property Office.

ACG encouraged delegates to handle and examine branded products and see if they could spot the fake from the real item.

“The ACG Spot the Fake exhibit was fun, but its real purpose was to generate some useful debate and highlight the dangers and issues faced by enforcement officers when dealing with counterfeit goods.

"Since The Premier League is an ACG member, they know all too well that counterfeiting doesn’t only affect luxury goods. It affects virtually every product sold today and has become a multi-billion pound industry that’s feeding terrorism, drugs trafficking and other organised crimes” commented an ACG exhibitor.

The Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) represents more than 3,000 brands and is actively working with Government and law enforcement agencies to shape an effective deterrent to counterfeiting: changing society’s perception of counterfeiting as a harmless activity; exposing its worldwide economic and social cost; and supporting enforcement agencies to take more effective action on the ground.
