The ACG and Premier League football clubs came together on Wednesday 5 September for a Football Against Fakes event held at The Emirates Stadium, London.
More than 20 clubs and partners exhibited genuine and counterfeit products and spoke to delegates from Trading Standards, Border Force, Police, The Intellectual Property Office and HMRC about the issues of counterfeiting.
The ACG held a Spot The Fake competition to encouraged delegates to examine branded products and see if they could identify the counterfeit item. Phil Lewis, ACG Director General also presented at the event and spoke enthusiastically about increased collaboration and partnerships.
“The ACG Spot the Fake exhibit generated a lot of interest and highlighted some of the issues faced by enforcement officers when identifying counterfeit goods.
"The Premier League is an ACG member and we were delighted to support them at this popular and thought provoking event. Counterfeiting does not only affect; football shirts, boots, scarfs and merchandise, it affects virtually every product available for sale today" commented an ACG exhibitor.
"Counterfeiting has become a multi-billion pound industry that’s threatening the health and safety of consumers".
ACG represents more than 3,000 brands affected by this influx of fakes into the UK and delivers an international network of information, advice and contacts on all aspects of IP protection.
