15 December 2017
The All-Party Parliamentary Intellectual Property Group held an hour-long evidence session on Wednesday 13 December and invited ACG, as a leading authority on the worldwide trade in fakes and representing around 3,000 brands (trade marks) globally, to provide views on the priorities for protecting UK IP rights in the years ahead.
The evidence presented will assist the group’s investigation into: the implications of the UK leaving the EU; protecting intellectual property (IP) rights in future trade agreements; identifying opportunities to unilaterally enhance the UK’s copyright framework; and reforming the enforcement of IP rights to make it more effective.
Alison Statham, ACG Director General shared key facts and figures relating to the issues faced by ACG brand members on enforcement and the online platform.
Pete Wishart MP, Chair and other group members, including Baroness Neville-Rolfe (Minister for IP 2013-2016) then asked Alison questions about IP rights in manufacturing.
The minutes for this meeting will be made available on the website of the All Party Parliamentary Intellectual Property Group.
ACG represents more than 3,000 brands affected by this influx of fakes into the UK and delivers an international network of information, advice and contacts on all aspects of IP protection. Working with Government and law enforcement agencies since 1980, ACG is focused on providing an effective and sustained response to counterfeiting.
Membership with the ACG is the best way to work with government and enforcement bodies to protect your brand. Our Roadshows and training days help you reach out to police, trading standards and border force officers and tell them about your genuine products.
