Yesterday saw members of the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) meet with Tokopedia for a second time this year. Tokopedia wanted to engage with ACG members to show them how much the Indonesian e-commerce platform has achieved from the last session in September. Tokopedia was founded in 2009 and has over 100 million active users and over 11 million platform sellers.
Tokopedia’s outreach goal was to learn the top 2/3 issues or concerns from ACG members to allow Tokopedia to have the greatest impact. They took their concerns seriously from the first roundtable and where able to adapt their brand protection goals. Tokopedia work closely with consumers, brand owners and regulators which give them a chance to cooperate with police.
The brand protection team from Tokopedia are continuously developing their activities to further strengthen their IP Protection mechanisms. Tokopedia have a three-step process for awareness and takedown which includes outreach, socialisation and a penalty point scheme for those infringing on IP rights. Monitoring and takedown which focuses on joint effort with brands and technology utilisation and finally enhanced communications, thought public relations and advocating to government.
Yesterday’s session was for Tokopedia to show their newly developed Brand Alliance Programme. ACG members who were on the virtual Roundtable got an insight into the new programme that boasts benefits to brands of a seamless and faster reporting system and informative and real time tracking.
They believe in the partnership between themselves and brands to further work hand in hand to fight against counterfeits being sold online.
Tokopedia are on a continuous journey to ‘make it better’ through various initiatives and by continuously educating sellers on anti-counterfeiting efforts by introducing new ways to help them.
This was the last Protecting Brands Online Roundtable and ACG looks forward to engaging with more platforms in the new year to help their members and to stop the sale of counterfeit goods online.
ACG represents more than 3,000 brands affected by this influx of fakes into the UK and delivers an international network of information, advice and contacts on all aspects of IP protection. Working with Government and law enforcement agencies since 1980, ACG is focused on providing an effective and sustained response to counterfeiting.
