The Alliance for Intellectual Property works hard every year to to put British IP Day on the map.
This year we celebrate British IP Day as a celebration of the creativity and innovation. The theme is to highlight the importance of IP to economic growth.
Director General of the Anti-Counterfeiting Group thoughts on htis year's British IP Day "For businesses, across the world, intellectual property has become their most precious asset. In many cases it can represent as much 70% of their corporate worth.
In the UK, industries that rely on trademarks to protect their brands and products contribute over £766 billion (37% of GDP); providing 21% of all jobs.
British IP Day was inaugurated to applaud this success and the contribution made by our inventors, creators and designers.
However, organised transnational counterfeiters are determined to undermine these achievements, by freeloading on our internationally recognised ingenuity and inventiveness.
The world trade in fake goods is now worth $464 billion USD and has become the preferred seed funding source for menacing criminals involved in the illicit trade of people, drugs and weapons.
For 40 years, ACG has been one of the world’s premier trade organisations dedicated to the fight against global counterfeiting. We work constantly alongside UK Government and international enforcement agencies to combat this insidious and menacing form of criminality, which has become a chosen path for organised crime networks across the world".
ACG represents more than 3,000 brands affected by this influx of fakes into the UK and delivers an international network of information, advice and contacts on all aspects of IP protection. Working with Government and law enforcement agencies since 1980, ACG is focused on providing an effective and sustained response to counterfeiting.
Membership with the ACG is the best way to work with government and enforcement bodies to protect your brand. Our Roadshows and training days help you reach out to police, trading standards and border force officers and tell them about your genuine products.
