Dorset Council Trading Standards team honoured with ACG award

Dorset Council Trading Standards team were presented with their ACG Award for Excellence in Anti-Counterfeiting Enforcement yesterday in Dorchester.

The award, made on behalf of ACG members, acknowledges and honours the contribution made by the team in tackling counterfeiting last year.

A full-scale counterfeit, fraud and money laundering investigation led to a successful conviction and Proceeds of Crime money recovery. The case was one of the largest frauds ever undertaken by Trading Standards.

Carol Levin, ACG commented "We're delighted to recognise the work of Dorset Council Trading Standards and present this ACG Highly Commended Award for Excellence in Anti-Counterfeiting Enforcement. This award is a token of appreciation from our members for everything they do in tackling illicit trade and intellectual property crime. The sale of counterfeit goods not only threatens legitimate businesses and cheats the consumer it can also fund organised crime. Trading Standards help to protect us all from these criminals and ACG is determined to remind the UK Government of the need to support you."

Councillor Anthony Alford, Portfolio Holder for Customer, Community and Regulatory Services at Dorset Council added “This award underlines the commitment that the Trading Standards team at Dorset Council continues to have to taking proportionate enforcement action where the sale of fake goods is uncovered. Action taken against the suppliers of fake goods benefits consumers and businesses, including our local suppliers. This work is one of a range of Trading Standards priorities that seek to ensure fair and safe trading.”
