IP Roadshow held in Telford

14 March 2016

14.03.16 - ACG brand owners exhibitionIntellectual Property (IP) was a hot topic in Telford last Thursday when more than 120 regional enforcement officers from Trading Standards, Customs and the Police attended a regional IP roadshow, hosted by the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG).

There was an update on IP law and EU trade mark regulations by Gavin Terry, IP Lead Officer, Chartered Trading Standards Institute and an insight from the Head of Intelligence Hub, Huw Watkins of the work and current initiatives at the IP Office.

ACG Intelligence Co-ordinator, Graham Mogg informed delegates of current enforcement campaigns and highlighted the on-going work of the National Markets Group, which he chairs on behalf of the ACG.

After lunch delegates also enjoyed a more in-depth look at different brands, when eight ACG brand owners presented the trends and issues faced on a daily basis.

Alison Statham, Director of Operations for ACG commented “IP Roadshows provide enforcement officers with a perfect opportunity to network with colleagues and other contacts from within the IP community. They share good practice and hear feedback from ACG brand owners such as Mulberry, Hewlett-Packard, Levi Strauss, adidas and Timberland”.

Over 50 ACG brand owners were on hand during the day to display examples of genuine and fake products and offer information and advice on how to spot the counterfeit.

Heathrow Border Force were also present, exhibiting a wide range of seized products which attracted a lot of interest from enforcement officers and even the other exhibitors.

Alison also took the opportunity to present Ron Johnson, HMRC with a Career Achievement Award for the invaluable advice and support he has given ACG and its members over the years.

The next regional ACG IP Roadshow will be held on 5 May at Celtic Football Club, Glasgow. To find out more view Events on the left-hand vertical menu of the ACG website.
