To recognise the vital role played by Trading Standards professionals working to tackle the growing trade in counterfeit goods, Phil Lewis Director General of the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) presented the Dave Hankinson Memorial Award for Individual Excellence in Anti-Counterfeiting Enforcement, to Lynn Foster of Highland Council Trading Standards.
Lynn is the intellectual property lead at Highland Council and a mentor for other neighbouring authorities on lead projects. After many successful prosecutions against traders selling counterfeits on social media, she has also initiated numerous activities to inform and educate the public on the harms of buying fakes.
Phil travelled to Scotland on Wednesday to make the presentation at Highland Council Head Quarters in Inverness. Councilor Alister Mackinnon and Donna Manson, Chief Executive at Highland Council were also there to celebrate.
“This memorial award for individual excellence in anti-counterfeiting enforcement was named after Dave Hankinson from the Ford Motor company. He sadly died in 2006, but he was a parts specialist and one of the first to recognise the infiltration of fakes. He worked hard to raise awareness within the industry and across other sectors, of the impending dangers which many didn’t recognise at the time. Dave always looked up to Trading Standards and appreciated the work that they do. So I was delighted to keep the tradition going by making the presentation to Lynn and keeping Dave’s name alive” explained Phil.
