Ismail Maulud, was jailed for a total of 30 months at Durham Crown Court, 12 months for the sale of counterfeit tobacco goods and 18 months consecutively for a knife attack he carried out on an in-debt customer.

Discount furniture store owner, Geoffrey David Moon, of Thwaite Lane, Leeds, was the ringleader of a criminal gang which smuggled tobacco products worth more than £2 million in unpaid duty into the UK.

The tell-tale signs of illicit tobacco include unusual packaging such as spelling mistakes, incorrect logos or styling, foreign or no health warnings, no picture health warnings, cheaper prices e.g. less than £5 for a pack of 20, or an unusual taste and smell.
