When a new product is launched, brands take product safety very seriously and invest a lot of time and money to ensure it is safe and won't cause harm. Without doubt, consumers look for safety in products to ensure their wellbeing. Whether it is a baby carrier to cradle and protect a young child, or an airbag to provide a soft cushion and restraint for those inside a car in the event of a crash.

Today the Anti-Counterfeiting Group hosted its third online fireside chat. This time with retired Professional Lead at Powys Trading Standards, Clive Jones and was a great way to finish off a busy week. Clive, who has spent most of his time trying to combat illicit crime, reminisced about his career working at Powys County Council Trading Standards.

Today, the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (ACG) working with member, BrandMonitor hosted a seminar to focus on border protection in Russia and the UK. Phil Lewis, ACG Director General moderated the event and provided an overview of the ACG. Then BrandMonitor's CEO and Business Development Director presented an overview of customs' seizure research and delved into a live demo that highlighted the scope and scale of seizures in Russia.

On the day of the publication of the Anti-Counterfeit Group (ACG) annual report, Mr Lewis explained that he is deeply worried that criminals will seek to see misuse of these free ports and this could result in an explosion of illicit trade.

Two market traders who set up a stall at a Sunday boot fair at Leysdown on the Isle of Sheppey to sell fake clothes have been ordered to pay back £136,476 of their illegal gains. Kent County Council's Trading Standards team went to Maidstone Crown Court to get the order under the Proceeds of Crime Act following successful prosecutions in 2019.

ACG members met with Amazon today for a Q&A session where Amazon went through their policies, tools, regulations and reporting techniques, that brand owners should use which will help support brands in combating the sale of counterfeit goods on Amazon's e-commerce website.

Despicable criminal counterfeiters are now threating the safety of new-born babies and toddlers and that's why ACG welcomes the news that the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU) has launched a major investigation into counterfeit baby carriers being sold on eBay. The baby carrier in question is the ‘Ergobaby Omni 360' and PIPCU is asking anyone who has recently purchased one of these but not from the company's official website, to get in touch as quickly as possible.

Yesterday ACG members got a chance to meet with eBay's Global Brand Relations Senior Manager for a roundtable discussion about what they do to protect consumers through their polices and user agreements that help to combat the sale of infringing items. A fantastic turn out from members who joined in on the discussion with eBay who have 1.7 million live listings, 185 million active buyers and 19 million sellers on their e-commerce selling site that focus on consumer-to-consumer and business-to-consumer sales through its website.

ACG members were able to meet with one of the senior brand protection team members from Pinduoduo (PDD) today for a roundtable discussion regarding their dedication to fighting counterfeit goods being sold online. PDD is China's second largest e-commerce platforms and was founded in 2015 with over 730million active buyers on their site.
